When there is a shortage of MARC electrics due to maintenance, Amtrak will sometimes lend an AEM-7 to MARC. Amtrak maintains MARC's electric fleet and passenger coaches. CSX does the diesels.

Because I travel to Union Station everyday once in a while I will see a MARC train pulled by a Amtk AEM-7. This is probably because all four of MARCs AEM-7s were taken to Wilmington in aug 2007 for a year and a half rehab by Amtk. So, when one or two of the MARC HHP-8s are being serviced, Amtk will loan a AEM-7 to temporarily replace it. It seems that one of the MARC AEM-7s are back from the Wilmington shops since dec 2007.

Say. Why's there an Amtrak engine with the MARC double-deckers?

No isn't short of power, however if one of their motors breaks down or is in Ivy City shops or Wilmington shops, then we are under contract to supply a replacement motor. Marc has 4 aem 7's and 5 hhp 8's. Also daytime service is provided with diesels.

What was that thumping sound at 1:15?

MARC does have their own HHP-8 engines, I have seen them before. I once lived near Landover (I was closer to New Carrolton Metro/Amtrak Station). I sure miss the Orange Line as well as Washington Metro altogether. alot has changed since i left, but I occasionally go back from time to time. The NEC rules!BTW great footage of the Acela train. I once saw an Acela at Union Station before it began its long journey.

Nice, weird to see a amtrak loco pulling marc cars, and I agree with you, they were running short on power |
