Hamburger Hill is probably the closest, but what do I know I wasn't there. I just know it's a great movie. But nothing beats this classic overall. What an experience. Now I want to go watch all 5 hours of it.

I think Full Metal Jacket would be considered more realistic and truthful, yet Apocalypse Now is more hellish and gradiose it makes Vietnam really appear to be the end of the world. (Per its title).

this movie rules! its the closest thing to real war iv ever seen in a movie, they really did shit like this in vietnam with no permission from higher commanders just because it was fun to kill shit, and commanders really did leave their men like in the scene at the bridge with the black guys listening to jimi hendrix in the trenches |
