Re-post: The crash was caused by partial engine failure as the fuel diffuser for one of the engines got blocked, reducing power output of the engine to about half and unexpectedly preventing rising above ground effect.The pilot did not want to set down again because onlookers were dangerously close and he was not able to maintain stable hover. Instead he opted to gain speed since that would add lift. He had scouted the path beforehand and made the call that there would be clearance. (cont'd)

If he would have just turned on his conducter belt he would have landed at a 90 degree angle and caused the superbial force to over regulate his equilibrium and land perfectly on the ground! DUH! There is no point in arguing
